Mosasaurus was a genus of giant, extinct marine reptiles that dominated the Late Cretaceous oceans, acting as apex predators with powerful jaws and flippers, and are closely related to modern snakes and monitor lizards. They were not dinosaurs but highly adapted aquatic reptiles that breathed air, gave birth to live young, and hunted a wide variety of prey, from fish to other marine reptiles. They roamed our prehistoric oceans during the late Cretaceous Period roughly 88 to 66 million years ago.
