Arizona Petrified Wood

Formed approximately 210 to 225 million years ago during the late Cretaceous Period.

Primarily composed of Araucarioxylon arizonicum, an extinct giant conifer, alongside rarer types like Woodworthia.

Fallen trees were buried in mineral-rich river sediments and volcanic ash. Silica-rich groundwater slowly replaced the organic wood tissue with quartz, chalcedony, and agate while keeping the cellular structure intact.
